A few of my favs

All recommendations represent items that add value to my life in some way. Some links are affiliate based, some are just regular.

When training for my first ultramarathon, Hal Koerner's Field Guide to Ultrarunning quickly became my bible. It's a quick read, and provides valuable insight into the ultra experience - how it will impact your body, mind and life, as well as tips for gear, outfitting and nutrition. My copy of this book is now dogeared and highlighted - I still reference it on a regular basis.

Places to purchase: Look no further than the author's own running store in Ashland, OR - Rogue Valley Runners - purchase here for an autographed copy.

When considering running shoes, I can't say I have just one favorite...I rotate between a few pairs depending on the day and the type of run I'm expecting. That being said, the Hoka One One Bondi is my go-to for distance runs on asphalt or gravel. It's an incredibly comfortable shoe.

  • Running Warehouse (I always check here first for deals)
  • HOKA
  • Amazon (womens / mens)

For trail run fun, the Hoka One One Challenger ATR is an all-around solid option. These things have helped me power through slick mud, steep inclines, intense declines, rock scrambles and water crossings. They're protective yet breathable and light, and provide valuable stability on the trail.

For hydration on the long run (15+ miles), my go-to has always been this Nathan HPL 020 Vest. It's got pouches in all the right places, and a bladder that is very easy to clean and assemble.
